Printable quilled thank you card and envelope

I'm so excited to introduce my new blog and paper direction! Paper Zen describes both how tranquil I feel when working with paper, and the enlightenment I hope my work gives others.

I'd like to thank all my previous readers of Crafting Creatures and any new ones who've found me here by giving you my quilled Thank You card. It's a printable PDF with score/cut marks to make a 6" x 4" card. It'll be for sale in my Etsy shop afterwards, so grab it while it's free.

I also designed a matching fillable envelope (simply type in the recipient's name). It has score marks and trimming outline as well.

I have always loved the retro look of banner ribbons, a vintage look that's come back in style big time. I used my Silhouette digital die cutter to cut the banner, then shaped it just so. A simple die punch made the flowers which I sculpted with a burnisher. The quilling is 3D, because I didn't glue it all down so it's more free flowing, casting soft shadows. Lastly I shot a photo of the layout, then added my text following the curve. I thought brides and grooms could also use this card to give their guests because yellow and grey seems to be quite a popular combination lately.

Until Aug 16, 2013, if you leave your email in a comment below, I'll send you a downloadable link for my printable card. If you have time, I'd be grateful for your thoughts on my new work, how it prints on your printer, or how the recipient enjoyed it – thanks!

Kite Ribbon Storage Hanger (SVG, DXF, PDF, MTC files)

I don't have ribbon fever, but I do save the ones I'm given with gifts because they are still re-usable for other gifts or even my cards.

I used to save the scraps in small plastic bags to keep them from fighting, but when I'd discover it wasn't long enough, I'd have to re-ravel it – or if it was right, I'd have to deal with all the kinks.

So I made my own with 4 layers of cardboard (the thickest my Silhouette can cut) and glued them together for strength and rigidity. You can also use poster board, chipboard, cardboard, even cereal boxes - whatever your machine or hand can cut. I added white vinyl to the two outer sides (before cutting) of my cardboard to give myself a neutral, white background, but I can imagine my kites and their ribboned tails against a light blue sky background too.

I love how the ribbons are stored with thicks and thins in orderly columns. Threading the ribbons through the 3 lines was quick to do, but also quick to remove too! They don't slide off (unlike my shirts on plastic hangers) and I can visually guage the length, color, width at a glance for my project. It now hangs in my craft room closet, kink-free!

I'm offering my Kite Ribbon Storage Hanger in the following formats: SVG, DXF, MTC, and PDF (for hand cutting if you prefer).

Yin Yang Valentine Card

I originally designed this card as a wedding invitation for dear friends. I wanted to give a subtle nod to their Asian background.

The interlocking Yin Yang design with Japanese flower motif opens up to reveal two interlocking hearts and a message for your Valentine. Overlapping two different colors of paper allows you to customize this card for weddings or anniversaries as well.

Part 3 of my Valentine collection, soon to be released on Etsy.

Valentine Hearts Gift Box

Classic cube with overlapping scallop-edged hearts. Simple and quick to make, this box can also be used for weddings or anniversaries. Who says Valentine's Day is just one day of the year?

Part 2 of upcoming Valentine's Day collection, soon to be offered on my Etsy store.

Paint a White Christmas

Need snow? Paint yourself a winter wonderland. Daiso sells pearlescent white paint for $2 in a small tube. Use a fine brush, load it up, and let the paint scrape against the edges of your craft project (in this case a party favor box).

Try to make it look like natural snow drift by painting from one direction (so don't coat every edge).

This triangular party favor box is sold on Etsy, along with other dinner party paper decor. Half-moon shaped flaps are on both ends to allow easy access to your stocking stuffer. Perfectly size for biscotti treats.
