Quilling Lowercase Letter y - How to Outline Tutorial for a Monogram

Quilling Lowercase Letter y - How to Outline Tutorial for a Monogram

Quilling the lowercase letter y is a cinch! The two curves in the tail are really easy to make, and as long as you glue the inner angle first, line up the top, then the rest will fall into place.

Although the letter y is not the last letter in the alphabet, it will be the last tutorial I make to show how to quill lowercase letters because the lowercase letter z is so similar to the uppercase version.

I hope you all have had as much enjoyment from this video series as I have. I've learned so much along this journey, and it's been amazing to receive your energy and encouragement – I really couldn't have done it without you – thank you and happy quilling to you all!

Paper Dragonfly and Lotus Flower Party Favor Gift Box - 3D SVG Cut File

Whenever I see a dragonfly, I feel very lucky that day. They’re so mesmerizing and fleeting.

I’m excited to show you my 3D paper dragonfly. What’s unique about it is the way the wings have two different angles. It’s simple to make and makes such a statement.

My 3D SVG pattern also comes with a lotus flower and leaf. You can place them all on top of a party favour gift box, which has tapered sides and graceful feet.

The dragonfly symbolizes change or transformation, so it’s perfect for a wedding, anniversary, retirement party, or any other celebration where you want to give an elegant atmosphere. It’s a memorable way to say thanks to your guests and leave them a token of appreciation for coming to your special event.

Tearing vs Cutting Quilling Strip Ends - Comparison and Tips

quilling tearing vs cutting strip ends

Tearing vs Cutting Quilling Strip Ends - Comparison and Tips

Is it better to tear or cut your quilling strip ends before you glue the end down? I've been asked that question many times, so I thought I'd share a video about it.

My tutorial video shows you some close up photos, comparing the two results, so you can decide how you want to approach your quilling. I also share some tips on how to minimize the gap so it's less distracting, if you are indeed distracted by this small detail.

Tearing your strip does create more of a tapered end, making the seam less visible.

It's more noticeable with thicker paper, like Canson Mi-Teintes.
Can you spot which strip was torn vs cut?

I find the comparison very noticeable when gluing a strip in between two other strips.

Do you notice a difference between the two methods? Please share your experience or helpful tips in the comments below so we can all learn from you too!

Quilling Letter X – Pine Cone and Needles Tutorial

Quilling Christmas Pine Cone Needles Tutorial

Quilling Letter X – Pine Cone and Needles Tutorial

I've always wanted to write a "Christmas in July" post, so I finally get my chance! Ever since I started these tutorials, I knew I wanted to fill the letter X with pine cone and needles for festive inspiration.

Everything you see here was made simply by eyeballing how it would fit in the space. I prefer to use random lengths in instances such as this so it's more realistic. I took a walk around my neighborhood and found new inspiration for this much anticipated quilled letter X. Watch how in my latest tutorial video.

A special friend turned 80 recently, so I quilled this monogram card for her. I've filled it with the number 8, exactly 10 times. The random sizes of numbers made of quilling techniques filled her monogram with its own unique texture.

You can use this technique to fill any monogram of your choosing. Watch how easy it is to make!

Quilling Lowercase Letter n - How to Outline Tutorial for a Monogram

quilling lowercase letter n - how to outline monogram tutorial and pattern

Quilling Lowercase Letter n - How to Outline

Quilling the lowercase letter n is quite similar to and easier than the lowercase letter m. Again, I pinch the inner curve to tame it in the direction I want. It's easy once you see how it's done.

Ann Martin of All Things Paper enjoys using Scotch Clear Glue because it doesn't develop a "skin" on top of the glue puddle. That's very important to quillers because a project can take quite some time to complete. Having quick drying glue means you'll waste more re-applying a new puddle to avoid spidery dry bits hanging from your quilling strips, which ruin the overall finished piece.

Quilling Lowercase Letter m - How to Outline

Quilling the lowercase letter m can get tricky with all those curves. If you look closely, the two curves on the inside are slightly slanted, and I couldn't achieve it by regular rubbing, so I had to do it another simple and easy way.

Quilling Letter W – How to Make Symmetrical Leaves Tutorial

Quilling Uppercase Letter W - Symmetrical Leaves Tutorial

The uppercase letter w has some tricky corners. Your eye can tell if the top three straight segments are off, so I use a straight edge to keep them all aligned. Did you know there are two types of leaves shown here, but in reality they're easily made from the same method? Watch how in my latest tutorial video.
